It’s the Way We Live Our Lies
"The depravity of man is at once the most empirically verifiable reality but at the same time most intellectually resisted fact."
—Malcolm Muggeridge
Today, in western secular society and increasingly in some circles of progressive, professing Christianity, the notion of “sin”…especially “original sin”…. has been deconstructed, remodeled, and made to fit the whims and proclivities of worldly fashion. We are told by “higher critics” that the spiritual fall of man is an outdated concept worthy only of contempt
When the profound depth of our sinfulness is reduced to a “we-can-work-with-it” condition of “Naughty but Nice”, the train wreck is inevitable. A quick scan of the current headlines clearly suggests that the piper is being paid.
Foolishness, especially “enlightened” foolishness, does have consequences….
“Man’s basic problem is not a lack of self esteem. It’s not that he’s out of harmony with his environment. It’s not that he’s sort of out of sync with his Creator. It’s not that he needs to make a few adjustments to sort of get God on his wavelength.”
—John MacArthur
“It is not just that some parts of us are sinful and others are pure. Rather, every part of our being is affected by sin — our intellects, our emotions and desires, our hearts (the center of our desires and decision-making processes), our goals and motives and even our physical bodies.”
—Wayne Grudem
It’s the Way We Live Our Lies
Some will tell you sin’s “no problem”,
“No big deal, man.…What’s the crime?”.
Just as fish will say “What water!?”
And a pig…”What filth?...What grime?”
It’s the swamp we’re simply used to,
Just the The Fall we’re living out.
It’s the lost soul’s wishful thinking…
Good intentions thought “devout”.
It’s the darkness we’re so fond of,
It’s the ditch we’ve learned to love.
It’s what Scripture calls “rebellion”.
Where no light breaks from above.
It’s The Mesmerizing Notion,
It’s depravity’s disguise.
It’s deception at its finest1
It’ the way we live our lies.
“But now”….(Friend, there is an answer….)
“But now”….(See the Risen Son.)
“But now”…(Righteousness is dawning)
Romans three….verse twenty-one2…..
2 “But now apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished…”
—Romans 3: 21-25…
