Down Here Way Beyond the Pale
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."—Macbeth (2nd witch)
“For they have forsaken me and made this a place of foreign gods; they have burned incense in it to gods that neither they nor their ancestors nor the kings of Judah ever knew, and they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent. They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind. So beware, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people will no longer call this place Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.”—Jeremiah 19: 4-6
An acquaintance of mine… ( a young ministerial leader in his church)…., made this remark to me recently:
“[T]here are huge swaths of people fighting for unrestricted abortion- I'm one of them.”
Such, I’m afraid, is the all too common, tragically misguided sentiment that has swept into many of today’s secularized, very, VERY world-friendly church sanctuaries. I am reminded of Judah’s blind embrace, affair, and eager intercourse with the Philistine culture around them when they climbed into bed with the Baal-ists, followers of the fertility goddess Ashtoreth and her horned god consort (Molech) in the 6th century BC… (See Jeremiah 19: 4-6 above for details.)
There is nothing new under the sun, I’m afraid.
Welcome to the tree-ripened, post- modern idolatry of the day, updated for your convenience here in the New Age “Valley of Slaughter”….spiritual rebellion characterized by self-deception, “good intentions”, mindless, doubting shrugs and endless unbelieving1 question marks all the way down. Syncretism with a sensate sneer.
“Men may keep a sort of level of good, but no man has ever been able to keep on one level of evil. That road goes down and down.”
—The Father Brown Mysteries, G. K. Chesterton.
Down Here Way Beyond the Pale
We’re “The Nuanced Church Post-Modern”,
“Happiness” our Holy Graill2…
We’re for No-Holds-Barred Abortion,
Down here WAAAY beyond the pale.
We’re “The Church of Deconstruction”,
Where the truth first ebbs then goes…
We exalt good Dr. Molech,
And the wisdom that he sows3.
Yes, his words are slick and oily,
Meaning slides around like eels4….
Dr. Molech’s Fundamentals:
“Children, do just what you FEEL!”
Yes, Uncertainty’s his anthem5,
Constant Doubt is just his "thing".
Truth, can't REALLY can’t be discovered…
(That’s the real truth that he brings!)
What he teaches is ingenious:
Contradictions left and right!
Then he throws them in the Cauldron
As he’s turning out the light6.
Eye of newt and tiny fetus,
Turn the heat up! …Hallel-LOO!
Stirring up our New Age Freedom
In this Unrestricted Brew!
He does right and wrong by “feeling”,
“Virtue” by the latest poll.
Using logic deconstructed,
He keeps blowing on the coals.
He’s a very artful dodger…
And his “yes” means often “no”.
Pushing doubt’s his favorite past time7…
He’s the king who wears no clothes.
He’s most proud when he is teaching
That the child within the womb
Is an “entity” UN-human,
One for whom there is no room.
Dr. Molech reassures us
All the gods are on his side.
He’s got Plumb Lines to erase, sir…
And Commands to override!
It’s a big job, but he’s focused,
And he fights red tooth and claw!
Those Commands to him are wicked ….
Dr. Molech’s Final Straw.
What’s HIS Bottom Line?...That’s simple!
Just be happy!...Just be FREE!
Dr. Molech may be driving,
But the Devil turns the key.
Jeremiah saw it coming….
Lord, your children missed it all.
In the Valley of the Destruction,
Judah, couldn’t hear your call.
Now The Slaughter is repeated,
To the drumbeat of our Pride.
Nothing’s changed here East of Eden…
Fallen, naked…still we hide8.
Give us Grace to fall in sorrow
To our knees and there to mourn…
Help us then to taste your Mercy,
And to once again be born!9
Give us eyes to see our sin,10 Lord.
Help us see the bloody cost11.
Give us grace to know Him risen…
The desire to share his Cross12.
“We are all barbarians until God removes our proud self-centeredness and enables us to trust and learn from Him who alone is good, absolutely true and exquisitely beautiful—Jesus Christ.”
