It’s a Place for Make-Believing
—E.A. Bucchianeri, Faust: My Soul Be Damned for the World: Volume I
“Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away.”—Elvis Presley
“If you look for truth, you might find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort, you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end despair.”
—C.S. Lewis
It’s a Place for Make-Believing
(Good Intentions Always Win)
Plant your head, boy, in this sand pile
With your rear- end up above…
Here’s the comfort zone you’re craving…,
It’s where “All you need is love!”
It’s just right for exploration…
Get to know your “inner child”,
It’s a place for “happy feelings”,
Yes, come join us for awhile!
Here’s a warning, though…Be careful!
Keep your eyelids tightly closed….
Shifting sand might be a problem,
And it COULD get up your nose.
Here’s a worldview to be Proud of,
Here at last, one to adore!
It is a place for digging deeper
And where Sin can be ignored.
It’s a sure place that’s provided,
It’s a place that feels just right1,
A reprieve…a place for hiding,
It’s where mankind’s taken flight.
It’s a place of Peace and Comfort,
And a place for airy dreams,
Where The Law can never touch you,
And for boosting Self-Esteems.
It’s a place you’ll find near perfect,
It’s a place for “just pretend”2…
It’s a place for make-believing
Good intentions always win.
It may look, boy, down ‘n’ dirty…
And at first, it might seem strange,
But believe us when we tell you….
It’s a place for Hope ‘n’ Change.
So, drop in!.... We’d love to have you!,
Keep your head down…Outta sight!
Man, down here good looks like evil,
And the darkness looks like light!
We’ve got Faith you’ll be rewarded,
By this deep-down honesty.
Here the truth will not escape you…
It’s a damned good place to be!
“Honesty is a choice of the will--the choice to seek the truth no matter where or what. This is the most momentous choice you can make. It is the choice of light over darkness, ultimately heaven over hell. Honesty is infinitely more momentous than we often think. It is also much harder than we think. Our culture trivializes honesty into merely 'sharing our feelings', telling others about the state of our nerve ends. That's not the opposite of dishonesty, that's just the opposite of shame or shyness.”
—Peter Kreeft
"When a man who is honestly mistaken hears the truth, he will either quit being mistaken, or cease to be honest. "
—Alexander. Solzhenitsyn
Please, dear Lord, invade this darkness,
Lift our eyes to see the Son,
May our search for Truth be honest,
And our wickedness undone. Help us recognize our error…
And this Prideful state we’re in,
Give us Grace to comprehend, Lord,
Yes…the Grace to see our Sin. May your Word then dawn3 upon us,
Light the Path so we may see!
Help us mourn4 our true condition…
And then fly to Calvary.
“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the ligt for fear his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”
—John 3: 19-21
