Does This Tapestry Have Meaning?

“And you will make a curtain of blue and purple and crimson yarns and finely twisted linen, the work of a skilled craftsman; he will make it with cherubim. And you will put it on four acacia pillars overlaid with gold with their gold hooks on four silver bases. And you will put the curtain under the clasps, and you will bring the ark of the testimony there inside the curtain, and the curtain will separate for you between the holy and the most holy place.”

Someone once observed that our lives here in this space and time… in this world, are like living on the back side of a beautiful tapestry…a curtain with threads that often appear to be unreasonably arranged in a chaotic, and unseemly mess.

Sometimes, though, we may detect a Purpose and a hidden Meaning, but try as we may to make sense of it, we are left only with unanswered, impenetrable questions in a tangled and painful world of suffering.

Human knowledge and rationalizations are simply not adequate to truly comprehend the “warp and the woof” of it all. We are stymied and left at scientific and philosophical “loose ends”. We sense a profoundly looming Mystery that our minds…our “humanisms”… simply cannot fully grasp.

Does This Tapestry Have Meaning?

Do these tangled threads have Purpose?
Is there Reason to be found?
Does the loom have some direction?
Is there somewhere Solid Ground?

Does this Tapestry have Meaning?
Could there be a Master Plan?
IF this tangled web holds Reason,
How are we to understand?

Could there be another side, sir?
One with some Pristine Design?
Truth and Beauty uncorrupted
Where true Good’s not undermined?

If there is, how could we know it?
Is there some Way through this Veil?
Heaven help us know The Answer!...
Help us find that Holy Grail.

Help us know the how and why here….
Help us see with eyes made new1.
Help us penetrate these shadows
To the Glory that is True.

Draw us through, Lord, that torn Curtain2.
Walk us through this Veil of Tears
‘Til we find that Seat of Mercy…
Give us hearts of Faith to hear3.
