Someone once said that the conscience is God's prophet to the soul. The Old Testament relates that Israel had a long history of killing her truth-telling prophets.

In the New Testament, the apostle Paul wrote in his letter to Timothy that:

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.”
(1 Timothy 4: 1-2)

When I read the words of men like Peter Singer and Michael Tooley (and they are not alone), it becomes quite clear to me that St. Paul knew what he was talking about. These two professors are influential and esteemed in certain circles of “upper crust” American academia. And while their teaching may not yet be “mainstream”, their ideas are respected and taken seriously by those “in the know”. They are considered cutting-edge players among the blue-blood, ivory-towered intelligentsia.....the self-sanctified elite among us.

1973 U.S. Supreme Court

When, in the winter of 1973, the Roe v Wade decision was reached and abortion was declared “legal” by five men in black robes, the peace-seeking abortion mantra became “Rare, Safe, Legal” . The public was told that abortions would only be considered if there was a serious threat to the mother's health, that is, presumably only when the mother's life was at risk. Today, a brief forty years later, abortions have been thoroughly 'mainstreamed' and are performed routinely for any reason at all including, simply, “convenience”. .

The “hot iron” to which the Apostle Paul referred was pressed into the cultural conscience of Western civilization on January 22, 1973. Today, nearly four decades later the searing of the cultural conscience is almost complete. The words of learned professors Tooley and Singer quite graphically attest to that fact.... Consider infanticide.

The New Age, God-averse Evolutionaries of the Dying Conscience have been extremely effective. The philosophies of the world and the Self-centered “ethics” of unbridled, “progressive” Humanism have apparently won the day. As a result, more than fifty million innocents have had their lives .....(ahem)..... 'legally' snuffed out in the United States since 1973.

These voiceless martyrs, tiny sacrificial lambs to the Idols of Scientism, Naturalism and “progressive” Humanism, I'm sure would cry out IF they had been afforded a choice.

I wonder if the “prophet to the western soul” may be drawing his final breath.
