Cashing In On Bets By Fools

William Lane Craig

“This is the dreadful verdict pronounced over modern [God-denying] man. In order to survive, he must live in self-deception. But even the Noble Lie option is in the end unworkable. In order to be happy, one must believe in objective meaning, value, and purpose. But how can one believe in those Noble Lies while at the same time believing in atheism and relativism? The more convinced you are of the necessity of a Noble Lie, the less you are able to believe in it. Like a placebo, a Noble Lie works only on those who believe it is the truth. Once we have seen through the fiction, then the Lie has lost its power over us. Thus, ironically, the Noble Lie cannot solve the human predicament for anyone who has come to see that predicament.”
—William Lane Craig

Even the hard-boiled atheist will sometimes recognize that the “red tooth and claw” scenario of mindless, unguided Evolutionism will end up eventually in a dark, thick-walled dungeon of incongruity, contradiction, relativism, and meaninglessness…..or worse.

Recently, Richard Dawkins, the infamous champion and proud standard-bearer of the “New Atheism” and of Darwinian Evolutionism (unintelligently designed), made this quite revealing statement:

“What we need is a truly anti-Darwinian society… in the sense that we don’t
wish to live in a society where the weakest go to the wall, where the
strongest suppress the weak, and even kill the weak. We — I, at least — do
not wish to live in that kind of society. I want to live in the sort of
society where we take care of the sick, where we take care of the weak,
take care of the oppressed, which is a very anti-Darwinian society.”

I suppose this is Dr. Dawkins’ way of scratching on the walls of the dimly lit, metaphysical (religious?) prison cell of Nihilistic Materialism that he has built up around himself, a cell built on what Bertrand Russell once recognized and described as a “….firm foundation of unyielding despair”.

Consistently living the lie of Metaphysical Naturalism does,… sooner or later… have a way of making one look extremely fool-ish.

“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good” (Psalm 14:1).

Cashing In On Bets By Fools

Take a seat!...We’d love to have you!
May we please, sir, deal you in?
We’re not playing with a full deck…
We’re convinced that’s not a sin!

Incongruity's our strong suit,
Nonsense is our calling card...
We are walking contradictions,
And our "wisdom" ? ...A canard.

There’s a fool born every minute…
Step right up, friend…”Just believe!”
That’s the Big Bluff that we bank on …
(And the ace up Satan’s sleeve.)

Never mind, though, it's a living,
Cashing in on bets by fools...
Pull a chair up to the table
Where the devil makes the rules.

In the pot of Truth-Denial,
You can toss your bet, my friend…
Smile and live the “Noble Lie”, sir,
In this game of “Just Pretend”.

There’s no limit…Ante-up, sir!
It’s The Game you can’t refuse…
You can be a Gosh-Dar-winner,
Trust us, man, you just can’t lose!

Father help us see the Light here
In this dim lit, smoke-filled room,
Help us know, Lord, when to fold ‘em…
Help us see that empty tomb!

Give us Grace to see our blindness,
And to flee idolatry...
Help us leave, Lord, Satan’s table,
Shepherd us to Calvary.

"Someone once said that if you sat a million monkeys at a million typewriters for a million years, one of them would eventually type out all of Hamlet by chance. But when we find the text of Hamlet, we don't wonder whether it came from chance and monkeys. Why then does the atheist use that incredibly improbable explanation of the universe? Clearly, because it is his only chance of remaining an atheist. At this point we need a psychological explanation of the atheist rather than a logical explanation of the universe."
