“Question Marks Our Horn of Plenty”

“[T]he eye which sees what things are right is growing mistier and mistier every moment, till it goes almost blind with doubt.”
—GK Chesterton

“Modesty has moved from the organ of ambition. Modesty has settled upon the organ of conviction where it was never meant to be. A man was meant to be doubtful about himself, but undoubting about the truth: this has been exactly reversed. Nowadays the part of a man that a man does assert is exactly the part he ought not to assert-himself. The part he doubts is exactly the part he ought not to doubt - the Divine Reason.”
—G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy

"As I see our world right now, I have never seen greater confusion, greater loss of meaning, greater uncertainty, and greater fear of what looms in front of us….”
—Ravi Zacharias

The acid reign of proud, “enlightened” secularism is running its dark, destructive, and inevitable course. It has emptied western culture into a post-modern, toxic reservoir, a cesspool of nihilism and spiritual malaise. It has effectively eaten away at the very foundation blocks of the Judeo-Christian tradition and has replaced the stabilizing and edifying Good News of that divinely inspired vision of truth with the shifting sands of current fashion, surface appearance, and the idolatrous, Self-centered tyranny of subjective (and often delusional) “feelings”.

Doubt itself has become the identifying calling card of western civilization. The paralyzing effects of proud and chronic skepticism have become more and more evident. In the meantime, the consequent undertow of confusion and meaninglessness increases….

“Question Marks Our Horn of Plenty”
(Vague Conjecture is our style)

Doubt’s the place where we have settled,
Doubt’s the place we like to hide.1
Doubt’s become our Comfy Corner…
It’s where truth may be denied.

Doubt’s the only thing we’re sure of,
Doubt’s become our Holy Grail.
“Skepticism!” is our motto…
And we doubt that it will fail.

Doubt’s the object of our faith, sir…
Please don’t doubt me when I say:
“Doubt’s the gospel we believe in,
Doubt’s the REAL good news today!”

So, don’t doubt those doubts you’re having,
(Keep those fingers crossed a lot!)
If you pray say, “Dear God, maybe…”
Follow that with “Maybe not…” 2

“We’re not sure!” is what we’re into.
“It’s Subjective!” makes us smile…
Question marks our horn of plenty,
“Vague Conjecture” is our style.

Fuzzy, sir, is now our focus,
Clearly, cloudy’s our worldview.
Blurred today is how we like it…
We’ve no doubt you’ll like it, too!

“Certainty” has been upended,
Puzzlement’s the Kingdom’s Key3
That’s the one thing you can bank on,
Bless’d assurance?....Heresy!

“Sez who?” is our great commission,
And disorder’s now the norm…
To and fro we like to waver4
In this New Age perfect storm.

Never knowing’s our position,
Even “meaning” we doubt now…
Everything is open-ended.
Doubt’s become our Sacred Cow.

“Dubious” is what we honor,
“Truth” at last has been dispelled!
Rest assured, sir, when we say this:
“If God is, He doubts, as well!”

* * *

Lord, forgive this grave perversion,
Overcome this fog of war.
Holy Spirit, blow right through us5
Bring revival to this door.

Teach us that The Word is worthy,
Take this blindness from our eyes6,
Give us, Lord, the firm foundation…
Help us doubt Satanic lies.

Plow each heart in true conviction,
Sow the seed in fertile ground7,
Water it with bless’d assurance,
Then may your grace, Lord, abound.

Take us to the Cross of Calv’ry,
Call the true Church to your side.
Help us hear that midnight crier.8,
Come soon, Jesus, for your Bride

"Do not doubt the truth. Doubt your doubts. Do so especially when God has spoken to you and revealed his very mind in the Bible. There is a cottage industry aimed at getting you to distrust the Word of God. Before you take on the intellectual heft of refuting God, aim at refuting your fellow man. It will be fun."
—Owen Strachan

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”
