We Were There to Reclaim Eden

“The Dionysiac triad of sex, drugs and rock and roll now dominates private life and popular culture. The Aquarian tenet of radical egalitarianism informs much of our public and private discourse. Although few people outside the AMA actually talk like government-off-our-backs hippie anarchists anymore, the principle that laws are for killjoys has been put into practice everywhere from the inner city to Wall Street…..To a degree that would astonish a time traveler from 1969, we now live in Woodstock Nation. And ain't we got fun.”
—David Gates, Newsweek magazine, August 1994 (25 years after Woodstock)

"Today, the 1960’s Woodstock, “All-you-need-is-love,” Wavy-Gravy visionaries have been governing, teaching, and preaching (via Hollywood and the arts, higher education and from the more “progressive” pulpits) with unbridled passion and commitment….and they have been doing so now for decades.

These “visionaries” have become “The Establishment”. They are the cultural elite, the worldly-wise, and the fashionably enlightened trend-setters of the day. Their influence has for more than a generation spread, high and low, like an invisible, odorless, and conscience-searing1 toxic gas throughout the now highly evolved Post-Modernist Realm.

The “Do-your-own-thing!”- thing has been dutifully chiseled, commandment-like, in stone, passed down and passed around like an idol rite of pagan passage.. or a "doobie" that we've all inhaled.

The narcissistic Mantra of Self has become THE cultural paradigm…NOT TO BE TAMPERED WITH (!).

The incongruous notion of pop-Lawless Legalism and boundary-less, individual subjectivism has been codified and ingrained. The subsequent moral confusion has been culturally catastrophic.Their seeds are sown. The roots are now very, VERY deep, and the fruit is becoming more tragically obvious. And the beat goes on....

We Were There to Reclaim Eden

Woodstock, man, held all answers,
We arrived to save the day…
We were high on Self (awareness?),
And, like, Wow!.....We’d have our way!

“Progress” via pure emotion,
Feeling fine, man, ruled and reigned…
We were there to reclaim Eden,
Cosmic Campers quite unchained.

Down the tracks the Peace Train Cometh…
My-oh my!... We did our thing!
Peace ‘n’ Love our Declaration…
Fun ‘n’ Games!.....An endless fling!

We knew “All you need is Luv, man!”
We knew “free stuff” grew on trees!
We knew human hearts were lovely…
We would change Reality.

Woodstock Nation!...Yes! We made it!…
Mother Earth, at last be blessed!
When we looked back at the end, though…
All we made was just a mess.

We were blinded by emotion,
Feelings, too… and youthful Pride…
Foolish rebels from our fathers,
Lemmings with no place to hide.

Yasgur’s fields of green were ruined…
And his farm a sea of mud,
Yes, we left the place a trash heap…
Our Utopia?.....A dud.

Father, please have mercy on us!
Give us eyes again to see!
Show us Jesus,…. Why He came here2.
Show us Grace at Calvary.

“Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. ‘Go,’ he told him, wash in the Pool of Siloam’ (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.” (John 9: 6-7)

“As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?”

“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.”
