But Then ‘Progress’ Came A-Callin’

“Progress should mean that we are always changing the world to fit the vision, instead we are always changing the vision.”  -GK Chesterton

But Then ‘Progress’ Came A-Callin’

Without God, all hope will vanish.

With no vision, we are blind.

Without light, we walk in darkness.

That’s the Truth we call Divine.

Son, we called this “common sense” once.

(That’s when common sense was cool.)

But then “progress” came a-callin’…

With it mayhem in the schools.

Indeed, once there were more “fathers”,

Moms AND Dads to show the Way.

But then “progress” came a-callin’,

And our children turned to prey.

Friend, there used to be a Plumb Line

That the culture had in place…

But then “progress” came a-callin’…

Shame and guilt then fell from Grace.

Yes, there used to be a Guardrail

Every conscience knew about…

But then “progress” came a-callin’

Sowing moral Seeds of Doubt.

Son, there used to be a Gospel

That the preacher shared, my friend.

But then “progress” came a-callin’…

Now ‘another gospel’s “in”1.

1 Galatians 1: 8-9

2  “Who gave us the sponge to wipe away the entire horizon? What were we doing when we unchained this earth from its sun? Whither is it moving now? Whither are we moving? Away from all suns? Are we not plunging continually? Backward, sideward, forward, in all directions? Is there still any up or down? Are we not straying, as through an infinite nothing? Do we not feel the breath of empty space? Has it not become colder? Is not night continually closing in on us? Do we not need to light lanterns in the morning? Do we hear nothing as yet of the noise of the gravediggers who are burying God? Do we smell nothing as yet of the divine decomposition? Gods, too, decompose. God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him.” –Friedrich Nietzsche, (“The Madman”)
