Euripides
“When one with honeyed words but evil mind
Persuades the mob, great woes befall the state.”
― Euripides, Orestes

“In countries to which Christian civilization has spread, large numbers of people have covered themselves with a decent, but thin, veneer of Christianity. They have allowed themselves to become somewhat involved, enough to be respectable but not enough to be uncomfortable. Their religion is a great, soft cushion. It protects them from the hard unpleasantness of life, while changing its place and shape to suit their convenience. No wonder the cynics speak of hypocrites in the church and dismiss religion as escapism…The message of Jesus was very different. He never lowered his standards or modified his conditions to make his call more readily acceptable. He asked his first disciples, and he has asked every disciple since, to give him their thoughtful and total commitment. Nothing less than this will do”
― John R.W. Stott, Basic Christianity

Honeyed words keep dripping ‘round us
Now that “All we need is love!”…
Watch the mob, sir, gain momentum.
Watch as push turns into shove.
Listen for the muffled doctrine,
Watch the Truth be compromised.
Hear the Gospel re-imagined.
Hear it, friend, mythologized.
Watch the cushion getting softer,
Watch as “Holy” loses weight.
Watch the lukewarm waters rising,
Watch the Church-Lites take the bait.
Watch ”Sin” changed to “Oopsie-Daisies”.
Watch The Fall be ridiculed.
Watch The Law, man, made illegal
In Big Brother’s state-run schools.
Watch the woes now multiplying
As the ears begin to itch…
Watch the blind guides making progress
Deeper still into the ditch.
Hear the sweet talk getting louder,
Watch the sugar coats increase.
Tribal Safe-Place Armies muster….
Watch ‘em screaming at police.
Watch “good feelings” making headway,
And emotion’s all the rage.
Watch subjectivism reigning…
Angry crowds take center stage.
Watch the devil chuckle softly
At the mesmerizing goo.
Watch the Light of Truth receding
Watch the world without a clue.
Watch the darkness getting deeper
In the Land of Shifting Sand.
Watch the whirlwind fast approaching…
On display…The Pride of Man.

"In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry." — 2 Timothy 4: 1-5
