“After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
—Matthew 17:1-9
Were you with Him on the mountain?
Did you see Him, Peter, there?
Did you witness that unveiling...
Tremble in that Holy Glare?
Did The Majesty astound you?
Did you fall, John, to your knees?
Did his Glory, James, engulf you
In the light of prophecies?
Did that bright Shekinah shock you?
Did you hear the Father's voice?
Did the cloud there overwhelm you....
Then with tears did you rejoice?
Did Elijah stand before you?
And was Moses present, too?
God's two witnesses professing...
Future Blessed Hope in view.
Did the Word you heard there touch you?
Did it penetrate your soul?
Was the Seed of Truth implanted?
Did He add you to the fold?
Were you born again that evening?
Washed to life by cleansing Blood?
There delivered into true Light*
On the bless'd side of the flood?
" For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son,with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."
