I am persuaded that the wise and the honest will be found knocking and asking….seeking the true Truth. Nicodemus, a Pharisee, was drawn to Jesus by the Holy Spirit of Truth. He responded… (under cover of night)… honestly and wisely. And by the grace of God, may we all do the same.
“Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again…..Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit….. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’”
- John 3:1-8
It’s the Pharisee within us…
Where the Natural Self-ish reigns.
Still encamped with fallen Adam…
Man of Pride…stillborn in chains.
We were born this way!...It’s finished!
Nature-made…Quite fine within!
We don’t need to change direction….
Jesus said: “Be born again.”
Dare we stand with Nicodemus
In the Presence of what’s true?
Dare we ask the King of Glory
How He makes each sinner new?
Dare we knock with Nicodemus?
Dare we seek God’s wisdom there?
Might we recognize the problem
In this kingdom of the air?
Dare we seek Him in the nighttime?
Dare we bow before the Lord?
Dare we seek the Word that slays us1
Like a double-edged Sword?2
Might we mourn the sin within us3?
Might we turn from blind to sight?
Might we overcome The Liar4
Who would cancel out the Light?
Lord, have mercy please upon us…
Give us grace to see we’re lost5.
Give us hearts like Nicodemus.
Father God, reveal the Cross.
