Enlightenment (or Secular) Humanism… also referred to by some as the Cult of Narcissism…, is, in the final analysis, a philosophical prescription for disaster predicated as it is upon earthbound assumptions arrived at without the warrant and wisdom of Divine Revelation. Such an ill-conceived religiously held, philosophical edifice will crack and collapse under its own hubristic , Self-centered weight.
The shifting sands of “progress” , the constant winds of change, the rising tides of subjectivism, and our overconfidence in the flesh and "our own understanding", will eventually bring down the foundationless house of cards.
When autonomous and purely secular man, oblivious to his own idolatry, proudly pits himself against Creator God, chaos is at the door. When the pot begins to ignore and/or dictate rules of engagement to the Potter, the outcome is never good.
The final lines of “The Creed” (a poem by Steve Turner written in the 1970’s) states the “enlightened” humanist’s predicament well:
If Chance be the Father of all flesh,
disaster is His rainbow in the sky.
And when you hear "State of Emergency",
"Sniper Kills Ten", "Troops on Rampage",
"Youths Go Looting", "Bomb Blasts School",
it is but the sound of man worshiping his maker.*
In the middle of the 8th century B.C., God speaking through the prophet Hosea, put it this way:
“With their silver and gold
they make idols for themselves
to their own destruction.
Samaria, throw out your calf-idol!.....
….It will be broken in pieces….
They sow the wind
and reap the whirlwind.” —Hosea 8: 5…7
Sowing seeds.. (our idols of destruction)… to the wind does have consequences....
We esteem our Humanism!
It’s the best, sir, that we’ve got…
Long ago we thought that God was,
But today we know God’s not.
Join the Nihilist Revival!
Come along with us….Pretend!
Help us tear down all these fences,
Join us in the streets, my friend!
Those “commandments”?...We debunked ‘em…
Mass confusion ‘s now the norm,
We’re now drawn by Nietzsche's Nature,
We’ll be quartered by the storm.
It's the joke that Satan's playing,
It's the dead end now complete,
It's the age-old burning question,
It's a riot in the street.
As we Babylon in darkness,
Who’s to say that’s not “OK”?
Like, “Whatever!”, man,…it’s harmless!
(And the devil has his way.)
Give us Grace to see the Truth, Lord…
Help us see the sin we’re in,
Take us to the Cross of Calv’ry
Where redemption must begin.
“It is in vain, O men, that you seek within yourselves the cure of all your miseries. All your insight only leads you to the knowledge that it is not in yourselves that you will discover the true and the good…”
—Blaise Pascal
