Perhaps, you've read about it.
Lately, there has been a Deep Green spiritual awakening among the more highly evolved of Mother Earth's bipedal naked apes. According to these more enlightened beings, mankind is guilty of "ecocide", and their Jolly Green Goddess (Gaia), is not at all happy. In her irritable cantankerosity, the Goddess has been calling out her prophets, her disciples and her devotees to spread the very bad news.
Today, it seems, we are in the midst of an existential and religious paradigm shift. We humans are no longer just fallen, imperfect "stewards" of the planet,...a fact, I'm sure, few would dispute. No,no, no. Our crimes are much more egregious than that! It's no longer just about global warm.....er...."climate change". According to the naturally attuned Pantheists and worshipers of Ms.Green, we have sinned against the Goddess herself. We have violated her "natural rights". And She is more than just offended, She is consciously and justly offended.
Humankind has been placed in the dock and weighed in the balances of Gaia. And we have been found to be profoundly and irredeemably "Guilty!" We are eco-criminals, little more, really, than cancers in the biosphere.

The concept of human exceptionalism (ie., the idea that humans are intrinsically of more existential value and worth than a night crawler or a patch of kudzu or a rock) has not only been challenged, it is being put to rest. You see, we have evolved well beyond lobbying for better gas mileage, adjusting our thermostats, recycling newspapers, and eating organic pomegranates (ie., "shallow environmentalism"). A new and more progressive "eco"- paradigm is being called for and put into practice. After a generation of adolescent growing pains, the Age of Aquarius has finally matured into the religion of Deep Ecology and is beginning to bear fruit. Creation be praised!
A revolution is afoot, because, you see, we have met the pathogen, and it is us.
Apparently, we are finally becoming aware of our profound eco-despicability. We must teach those who may come along behind us, our children and grandchildren, to bow low...very low... to The Goddess. We must teach them The Way of the Goddess. We must discard the cultural follies and misconceptions of our now discredited past. After all, there are just too darn many homo erecti wandering around on the body of the Goddess today. If things are going to change for the better, if we are going to save the planet, we must abandon the traditional heroes of human history and begin to recognize, praise, and promote the true heroes of Eco-History.
